Hello friends and family! I guess it's time for me to get back into my blogging. Over the past months, I've been thinking about my blog and struggling with what to say and who I'm writing it for. When we moved away, it seemed obvious to me to document everything that was different at first (it seemed like everything was!) and then after a while it evolved into my travel log and major events. It's always been kinda the highlights.
Somewhere in our transition, I lost my voice. I'm trying to figure out how to get it back.
For so many reasons, we are so happy to be back in the USA. It's wonderful to be close to family again. There's a sense of permanence to the life that we are creating that gives me comfort in some ways but it also scares me in other ways. We are working on embracing our American-ness and rediscovering our beautiful city of Austin, Texas.
Wyatt played tee-ball this fall! He loved it. It was also really easy for me, because the tee-ball field is literally across the street from our new home. On the day that the picture above was taken, Madeline cracked her head open! She was playing on the bleachers at Wyatt's game and she fell. Lucky for me, my parents were visiting (Scott was still in Singapore) and I was able to scoop her up and rush her to the hospital. A few stitches later, she's fine.
Scott returned to Austin just in time for Thanksgiving. We hosted this year in our new place. Scott's sister and her family along with his parents joined us for our first meal back in the US and in our new home. There is something about hosting a holiday in your home that helps to make it feel like home.
We attended Austin's Comic-Con this year! We all dressed up in Star Fleet uniforms and had a ball checking out all the other costumes and displays set up.
My kids loved checking out the Trail of Lights. I have to say that it was awesome being able to walk over to it and not have to worry about parking or taking a shuttle. Scott got VIP passes at work because SiLabs is a sponsor and so we got in about 20 minutes early. That was the hook up! It was lovely strolling through the trail with very little other people.
Scott and I attended a Gatsby party in December. It was so fun to get dressed up! We had a ball.
I love to watch the full moon rise over the city buildings. I took this picture off of the balcony in our bedroom. I miss the leaves on the trees, but there is something beautiful about them in the winter too. I can't wait for spring! It will be magic to see the trees bloom!
Miss Madeline had her birthday in December too! She's 7 now, I can hardly believe it.
After opening our presents at home, we visited Papa and Gram on Christmas Day.
We were a little crazy and went camping at Enchanted Rock over the winter school holiday. We actually had an awesome time. It got into the 30's at night, but we were warm enough. We all loved hiking up Enchanted Rock, building a campfire and roasting marshmallows. Lucky for us, there was a playground right next to our campsite too. Bliss.
This picture is the sun setting behind the trees in the campground. The colors are so vibrant it looks like fire! I love it!
Scott's been growing his hair out for a little over a year now. January brought the cedar. Scott decided that his hair had become a cedar mop surrounding his face and it was time to cut it off! So, he put Lily and Madeline in charge of getting things started. The girls loved it!
Those are our highlights for now. Peace and Love to all!
