We took a day-trip today to take the kids fishing! They've never been. I was inspired after reading Shiloh McKinnon's blog. So, we loaded everyone up, packed a few snacks and headed out. We stopped at Walmart first, to get some poles for the girls and some life vests, just in case we wanted to do a little swimming.
We drove out to our property in Stonewall, Texas. Scott and I have visited it a few times, but we've never taken the kids there. It went pretty well... The walk from the road (which is now paved!) to the river is kinda long. And there are prickers in the grass. And the grass is kinda tall... AND it's kinda steep to get down to the water. After a little whining and some "hold me, Daddy!"'s we finally made it to the water. I have to be honest, it was a little more organic than I expected. It was a lot greener, more bushes and more algae. However, once we found a place to sit and get the poles out, everyone had a great time!

We found a very shallow spot where the girls could stand in the water, cast their poles and reel them back in. We got Barbie fishing poles that had little butterflies attached to the end. It wasn't "real" fishing, but it was great practice. They got the general idea and they had fun!
Scott brought his fly fishing pole and got it out a little bit. Our property is on the Pedernales River, which is a great fly fishing river.
They have the lots marked now. I was so delighted to see that they put our name on our lot!
After fishing, we went across 290 to Becker Vineyard. We had lunch there (a pic-nic we packed) and a bottle of wine. They kids had a ball running around in the grass. They had a live musician playing and lots of shade. It was very relaxing.
