A Month Away...

Hello Blog!  I've been away for a month and I have a ton to write about.  As soon as school was out, we boarded several airplanes and flew half way around the world.  We spent 4 weeks visiting with friends and family and enjoying all of the comforts of the States and home.

Our journey to Austin was treacherous, however, my kids are amazing and we all kept our spirits up and managed without any tears.  Our route was Singapore to Tokyo to San Francisco to Austin.  We ran into bad weather in Tokyo and we were unable to land on time.  Once we did land, we had missed our connection.  After waiting through immigration, collecting our baggage and then going through customs, we found ourselves in a very long line to get re-booked.  We ended up booked on a flight to Los Angeles the next day.  Thankfully, we had a hotel for the night.  In Tokyo, we ate a few delicious meals and enjoyed swimming in the hotel's indoor pool.  In the afternoon, we returned to the airport and continued our journey without delay.  By the time we boarded our final leg, Wyatt had contracted some kind of virus.  He spent the last 3 hours of our long journey vomiting.  Poor kid!

We were so happy to finally land in Austin.  We were totally exhausted!  We spent the next few days hugging papa and gram and trying to adjust our sleeping schedule.  We all had doctor appointments and Scott went in to work.  We got to see a few friends and some last minute holiday shopping.  I took the kids to some of our old favorite parks in Austin and we tried ice skating at Whole Foods.  Of course, we ate Mexican food for at least 1 meal every day!

I got a very exciting gift for Christmas this year.  I got a new camera!  It's one of my personal development goals this year to learn to take better pictures.  Pictures are the main treasure we are taking from all of our holidays and adventures and I'd like to improve the quality.  I'm very excited to learn this new skill.

Madeline got her ears pierced!  It's what she wanted for her birthday this year.

We were so happy to see Grandma Marcia!  Grandma Marcia has had a difficult year battling pancreatic cancer.  We are super proud and excited to report that she has beat it!  We were all thrilled to see her and celebrate the holidays this year with this happy news.

On Saturday, December 22nd, we headed South to Corpus Christi to visit Scott's sister Kristi and her family for Christmas.  My kids were super thrilled to see their cousins.  They played their little hearts out and soaked up all the glorious cousin time they could.

On Sunday, the 22nd of December, Scott and I spent the morning in the ER with Wyatt.  His cold had continued all week and had progressed into a deep cough.  No fever, but by Sunday morning, Wyatt was panting and his heart was racing.  He had a chest X-ray and was diagnosed with an ear infection and bronchitis.  He got a pile of medication and a few days later, he felt much better.

We were surprised that it was warm enough to swim!

We fed the ducks!  Corpus Christi is along the path for migratory ducks and birds.  Uncle Mike took me and the kids up to the park to feed the ducks.  I couldn't believe how many were there and the diversity!  Beautiful.

Another treat...  Uncle Mike stopped at Sonic to get the kids ice cream.  We went through the drive through.  It was so adorable when we pulled up to the ordering menu because all 3 of my kids unbuckled their seat belts and stood up, ready to go inside!  Grace told them no, it's the drive through.  My kids did not understand.  They didn't remember ever going though a drive through.  They thoroughly enjoyed it and were thrilled to be introduced to this American tradition by their awesome Uncle Mike!

My sweet birthday girl!

Aunt Kristi baked Madeline a birthday cake and the kids decorated it.  We all sang Happy Birthday and enjoyed the delicious cake.  Madeline even had a few presents to open!

On Christmas Eve, we always read several Christmas books before bed.

Wyatt was given Link's Master Sword and shield for Christmas.  Zelda is my favorite video game.  I have to say it warmed my heart to see my little boy playing with these toys.

We made up some fake snow!

Papa and Gram and all the grand kids!

The Caudles!

Grace was given a microphone for Christmas.  We enjoyed some karaoke on Christmas Day!

On the day we left Corpus Christi, Ian was off to a boy scout camp.  I thought he looked great all dressed up in his scouting uniform.

It was a beautiful Christmas and lovely family time.  We were so happy to have the time to share together.  From Corpus Christi, we headed out for a 2 day drive to Arizona.  Time to see the Hosleys!
