Day One

Don't worry, I'm not going to post every day about all of the routine things that we all do.  However, I think I am going to adapt pretty quickly here and I want to document my thoughts and feelings about each day as they happen... at least for the first few days.

On my first morning in Singapore, I woke up to rain, so I immediately knew I wasn't in Texas anymore.  I looked out of the big beautiful windows of our apartment and I couldn't really believe we were here.  It was about 9:00 am, I had only gone to bed at 5:00 am, but I felt like an entire day had passed.  It's amazing how much better you feel after a few hours sleep and a shower!

We were hungry.  There was no food in the apartment.  I had some Cliff Kids bars and fruit snacks left over from our trip.  There was water.  So, we were pretty motivated to get out and find some food.  The kids were up about 10:00 and we got down to the hotel restaurant by 11:00.  I had a sandwich, the kids had plain noodles with butter and a fruit tray and Scott had Fried Laksa (sp?).  We all enjoyed our meals and ate every bite.  There was even a fruit that we didn't recognize.  It tasted a little like a Kiwi but it was white with black seeds.  Does anybody know what it is?

When we finished our meal, Scott headed in to work and the kids and I headed back to the apartment.  I had 6 suitcases to unpack.  I wanted us to get settled.  About 4:00 or so, the kids and I decided to go for a swim.  Our hotel has a beautiful pool and it has a really large shallow area that is about 2 feet deep.  Perfect for my kids.  We headed back about 5:00 and got dressed and ready for dinner.

Scott got home soon after and we decided that we needed to find dinner and some groceries for the morning.  It was a mistake for us to wait until the evening to do this.  We were feeling so good earlier in the day that we didn't really consider our jet lag.  We headed out after some directions from the front desk.  We went to Bugis Station.  It was a lovely evening and if we weren't so tired I think it could have been a good plan.

The station was only about a 10 minute walk.  Once there, we had to find the shopping/food area.  We of course went the wrong way and walked to the opposite end of the station and then walked back.  By now, the kids are miserable, it's super crowded and very noisy.  We find the food area and it is HUGE and incredible.  Every kind of food is there.  Mostly Asian food and lots a big colorful pictures of the different kinds of food that are available.  It was something like a super sized mall food court.  The options were great, but in our state, a little overwhelming.  We decide on pizza.  sigh.  Madeline has to go potty, Lily wants to try to potty too.  Wyatt is crying.  I take the girls, and Scott orders for us.  I get back with the girls and Wyatt has fallen asleep.  There is a grocery store in sight, so I take the sleeping boy and Scott heads over to the grocery store.  The food comes and the pasta is too spicy and the pizza has mushrooms on it.  I'm the only one in the family that likes mushrooms.  Lily starts to cry because she's hungry and she doesn't like the food.  Madeline falls asleep on the table.  Wyatt is still asleep in my arms.  The pizza is a little floppy and hard to eat with one hand.  It's EXTREMELY noisy.  I just want to cry.

Scott gets back.  We get the food boxed up to take with us.  He got milk and cereal and even peanut butter and jelly, bread and fresh fruit.  Whew.  Maybe we will survive!

We walk back to our apartment.  There was a nice breeze and getting outside away from the noise was calming.  Wyatt is still asleep, but Madeline woke up and is able to walk.  Lily stopped crying and was excited about the food that Scott got.

We get back, get some food in everybody's tummy.  Then baths and bed.  Scott and I went to bed at the same time as the kids.  What a day!

I can only imagine what it is like to move with 3 small kids. We have been thinking this over and only have 2. So much change - you are an amazing mommy!

I think that the fruit may have been dragon fruit?
