Today was a perfect Sunday! I got to sleep in, after my night out on the town. Thank you to my wonderful husband for getting up with the kids! We had a lazy morning. It rained! I mean really really rained! We couldn't even see the buildings from our window it was raining so hard! We stayed inside and stayed in our PJ's until after noon. Delightful!
Around 2:00 we decided we should probably get outside a little bit. The rain had stopped, the sun was out, the kids needed to run wild like kids do. There's a little green area next to the MRT (subway) station that is closest to our hotel. Scott had checked it out a little bit the other day, when he went out for a run. So, we headed over. In my backpack, we brought some drinks and fruit and a few snacks, just in case we wanted to have a little pic-nic.
The kids were really impressed with this huge palm frond.
To the right, past the grass is the bay. On the left, a walking/running trail. There are kilometer markings and it seems to go on forever.
I love these trees! They have a huge base with lots of roots around the bottom. This one is growing at an angle and I love the ivy growing up the side.
There are coconut trees! Lily found this coconut!! After she found this one, we noticed they are all over the place.
We're not sure if a person cut this one open or an animal. Either way, it was empty. In Lily's hand is a random flower that she had picked up somewhere along the way.
By the way, have I mentioned that every time we leave the house I come home with a purse full of flowers?! I'm sure some day I'll look back on this fondly... The girls just pick up all the flowers they find that cover the ground. It's beautiful. They each are always carrying a small bouquet and then at some point they need their hands free, so the flowers end up in my purse. They are usually forgotten after that and hours later (or the next day) I am cleaning brown soggy flowers out of my purse.
We found this little ramada to have our pic-nic.
My family!
My kids liked this little tree. They wanted to stand in its shade to take a little rest.
The view from where we were standing in the park.
Does anybody know what kind of flower this is? It is a light lavender color and seemed to be on a vine. There was a fence that was covered with the vine and had these blossoms all over it.
When Lily saw this she shouted: "A Fairy Canoe!"
This is the bridge that connects the sidewalk near our hotel, to the MRT station. These purple flowers are all bouganvilla. I was surprised to see them here. I know they grow at my parent's house in Arizona, so I thought they preferred a dry climate, but I see I was wrong.
