No pictures today... sorry. We are starting to feel a bit more settled and at ease here. It's been almost a week. Hard to believe, really. All of us slept until about 6:00 am this morning! That's a huge improvement. We are almost adjusted to the time. I'm so glad!
Today, the kids and I stayed home mostly. We did laundry and made a short trip to the grocery store. I was really excited to find the Dark Blue Silk Soy Milk today. We've been trying all different sorts of soy milk and none of them are sweetened as much as the purple Silk that we drank in Texas. However, the Dark Blue Silk is acceptable to my pickiest child, so that's great news for us! I needed to get some beans today. I decided to buy my chick peas and red kidney beans dry instead of canned. They just need to soak for a few hours before I use them. I was able to buy a lot more beans dry for the weight of 1 can. When you have to walk home with all of your groceries in hand, every bit of weight helps.
We've been getting a daily paper as part of our hotel. It is very interesting to read and see what is important news around here. There were two major stories in the crime section. One man got his picture in the paper because he lied on his taxes and was in trouble with the government over it. It was a big story (half a page at least!). The other major crime was a story and picture of a British man who was arrested at a club on Friday night/Saturday morning. Apparently, he "offended a woman's morality" around 4 am on Saturday morning. He grabbed the bottom of a 30 year old woman. He's facing 4 months in jail and a caning. Everybody has told me it is very safe here, but it is still shocking to me.
Scott went in to work today for his first full day of work. Tomorrow we have cultural training. Thursday we have appointments with the government to get Scott's employment pass and the kids and I need dependent passes. On Friday, we have a settling in service. They will help us get my cell phone, get our utilities set up for our condo, figure out where to buy the things we need for our new home, etc.
There is a long weekend coming up. August 9th is National Day (Singapore's Birthday). They seem to be very patriotic here. There are a lot of decorations and commotion surrounding the holiday. We've got a view from our living room of the fireworks!
