The elephants have been all of Singapore for December. They are so fun, brightly colored and each one unique. The kids and I have had a ball spotting them out and about wherever we've been. The elephants will be auctioned tomorrow... So today was the last day for the public to see them.
All of the elephants (162) were gathered in the Singapore Botanic Garden for the final viewing. Some of the elephants needed a little repair work after being displayed for the last month outside. The kids and I hoped over to the Botanic Garden this morning to see them!
Here we are next to the elephant that we decided to buy a miniature replica of. This one is called Deep InSIDE by Sohn Jinah.
The flower pattern represents nature, earth, the forests, and our natural environment. The dot pattern represents our heart, a state of mind, the collective consciousness of all people, and also, the elephant. Every single creature, man and animal, shares an equal right to the earth. It is a source of life; it nourishes and enriches. If we accept and share, we will all have a happier, fuller, better life.
Madeline loved this one because it has real eyelashes!
Lily remembers sitting on this one with her friends.
This one is a Durian elephant (very Singaporian!)
Wyatt's favorite!
A Unicorn! Called Unicelephant by Philip Treacy.
They were all so different and fun to see. We feel so lucky to have been here during this fun art exhibit. I hope they are very successful in raising money and awareness of the plight of the Asian Elephant.
Over the last 100 years, the number of Asia's wild elephants has fallen by a catastrophic 90%. Numbers have plummeted to just 35,000 with the greatest loss, almost, 150,000 in the last 25 years alone. Unless radical steps are taken, conservationists predict that in just 30 years, the elephants will become extinct.
