Thailand!!

We just got back from a fabulous trip to Thailand!!  We went to a little beach town called Krabi.  It's quite close to Singapore, the flight was just under an hour and a half.  The weather was very similar to Singapore.  Summer all year round.  It rains a lot.  It rained every day while we were there, but not enough to impact our plans.  Krabi was stunning.  We stayed at the Peace Laguna Resort.  Our room was large enough for all 5 of us to stay together.  The staff were very nice and the buffet breakfast was amazing!

The resort surrounds a pond.  The room are actually individual little cottages.  Some with balconies that overlook the pond.

We had a view of this mountain just outside our room.

The beach was just a short 5 minute walk from our resort.

There were so many sea shells!  The sand was very soft, but there was a section just where the water's edge was, that was covered in sea shells.  The girls collected and sorted shells for hours.

I loved the beautiful golden sand beach.  I loved how the trees grow so close to the water.  We could sit out of the sun and still enjoy the beach.  So lovely!

These boats were all over the beach.  They are available for hire to take to any of the surrounding islands.

Our friends joined us on our trip!  The kids loved having their friends with them to enjoy the beach and our exciting adventures.

There were chairs and shade set up all along the beach.  Beer and other drinks for sale!

Scott watched this woman get a tattoo right on the beach!  Her tattoo artist used a piece of bamboo to create his art (I think it was a parrot).  She seemed very relaxed about it, but I would be worried about Hepatitis C or other diseases.  I'm not sure a stick of bamboo is the most sterile way to get a tattoo.

This man was carrying hot food available.  The Thai people seem to give you every excuse to just sit at the beach and enjoy its beauty.  OK... I'm in!

Our crew... on the way to lunch!

After lunch, we decided to take a boat ride to check out another beach and island.  We heard that the sun set was very pretty from Riley Bay.  We were not disappointed!

This was the boat that we rode across the water in.  The total trip was only about 15 minutes.

There was a fabulous climbing tree just waiting for the kids as they got off the boat.

The girls loved to roll around in the sand and get as sandy as the possibly could and the race to the water and clean off.

We were able to swim out to the cave and climb around in it.  There was another sandy part just out of sight.  It was quite the little adventure!  All of the kids made it out there too.

Okay...  What do you think these large (and small) sticks are.  Well...  This cave is some what of a shrine.  There is a local legend that a goddess lives here in the cave.  The fishermen will come here and make offerings to her.  What is it that she likes?  Apparently, penises.  Large ones and small ones.  There was a huge pile of them!

Monkeys!  We walked on a trail through the center of the island to reach the other side (it was a long narrow island).  Along the way, we encountered some "wild" monkeys!  I say "wild" because, they seemed to know that the tourists would feed them.  This little guy took a piece of banana right out of Lily's hand!  We didn't linger too long; monkeys can be fierce.  However, it was exciting!

I don't know this woman, and the photo is unflattering, but the baby monkey just jumped right into her hand!

The view of the beach as we exited the trail.  It was really pretty muddy.  These tractors were used to shuttle passengers from the boats in the bay up to the sandy/walk-able part.

The girls played on the beach watching the little crabs in their shells for hours.

Dinner at sunset.

When we got back to our beach (boat ride at night was beautiful!), there were people selling these flying lanterns.  We had to try one!  We've seen Tangled a hundred times and these lanterns reminded the kids (and me) of the lanterns in Tangled.  Once the wick was lit, we had to wait for enough hot air to fill the paper bag and then the lantern would take off.

Well, that brings us to the end of the day (and our second night).  My next post will be all about our encounter with the elephants!
