Something that is different here from my experience in Austin... all of the women in my peer group seem to wear dresses nearly every day! I think it's so fun!! I love dresses, but they never seemed to be quite right before. I always felt over dressed or out of place in dresses. But, here, it's dresses every day. I feel a little odd in my capri pants or shorts. I have 3 skirts here with me, and they've gotten more wear in my month in Singapore than they had so far in their years in my closet. Some of the dresses are quite short too.
I think it is the weather. It's humid and warm (although not at all as hot as Phoenix and Austin have been!). My clothes really stick to me here. Denim is absolutely out of the question. I'm surprised by it. I made sure to get new denim capris and shorts just before I left because I wore them so much I wanted to be sure they didn't wear out right away. I've tried wearing them and the weight of the fabric is just too much.
So, light fabric, flowing dresses and sandals. It's casual, some of the dresses I've seen look like maybe they are bathing suit cover ups. It's about being comfortable and a little bit cute.
For my birthday, I decided to order some dresses from my favorite dress website! Modcloth! I've ordered a few things from there before, but not too much. I have been looking at their dresses for years, but never had a reason to order them. I was thrilled to learn that they ship internationally! I could have gone shopping here, but I didn't really know where to go and the clothes that I have seen are very expensive.
So, here they are:
Six new dresses from Modcloth!
This one is very comfortable and the fabric is stretchy. It's got an asymmetrical cut along the bottom.
You can't tell in the picture, but the fabric has little birds on a line. It's called the bird on a wire dress, or something like that.
This one gave me some issues. I think the waist is cut a little too high, so I added this belt. I think it was better with the belt, but what do you think? I love the lapis blue of it.
Here it is with no belt.
This one has pockets! The patter has little daisies all over it. It reminds me of a 1950's dress.
A big thank you to my photographer Scott! As Madeline said... "What a fun fashion photo shoot!" Ha ha!!

I adore all of those dresses, definitely love the blue one with a belt! Love that you have an excuse to wear dresses! They are so comfortable in the warm weather! I will have to check out modcloth! I always love their catalogs and never ordered from them.
You look adorable in all of them!! My favorite one is the pink one at the end! And I agree about the belt!
When I was in Japan as a student, one of the things I did notice was how all of the girls/women dressed up... absolutely no shorts at all. It was always cute dresses and skirts/skinny belts. I remember throwing a lot of my shorts and t's away because I felt so frumpy.
Perhaps it's the same in Singapore? The dresses you picked are cute. I will need to check out that site. Hope the transition is going well.
You are adorable. The dresses are fun! they would look cute with leggings and a crop sweater if the weather turns cooler.
love you,
Aunt Arnie
