Socializing

It's been a quick week.  Honestly, I can't believe it's already Sunday.  I've had a very social week and I've fallen miserably behind in my house work.  I actually went three days without doing any dishes!  That means, that every single dish in our kitchen was dirty.  Really.  The hand washing of all of the dishes is quite a task.  If I stay on it, and do the dishes every day, it amounts to about 30 to 40 minutes of standing at the sink per day, washing dishes.  Now, with all of the dishes dirty, it's about 2 hours.  I've been working on it in shifts.   Enough about that...

This week, the prep (aka Kindergarten) moms had a Ladies Night!  Whoo hoo!  My friend Melissa and I met down by the pool on Wednesday night and we took a taxi to a bar in Tanglin Mall.  We left our husbands to feed, bathe and put the kids to bed.  Ladies Night was at a bar in an Indian restaurant that serves FREE champagne to women on Wednesday nights from 6:30 to 8:30.  Whoo hoo!  Alcohol is VERY expensive in Singapore.   Last weekend, I paid $16 for 1 margarita.  It was small and frozen.  Delicious, but nothing special.  So, for there to be free drinks is quite unusual.

Anyway, I had a ball at Ladies Night.  I met a bunch of moms.  One had only just arrived in Singapore from Madison, WI.  She's been here 9 days.  Another mom arrived about the same time that I did.  I visited with 2 moms from Lily's class, both are very sweet.  When the free drinks were ending, many of the ladies either left to go home, or got a table to have dinner.  Melissa and I and one other friend (Tara, she's Canadian) just sat at the bar and ordered some appetizers.  I kinda made friends with the bar tender and he gave the three of us free drinks for the rest of the night.  He kept my glass full.  At one point I asked for water and explained that if I had anymore to drink, I would fall over.  He said he'd take care of me and to not worry.  Hmm.  I'm sure.  Melissa, Tara and I then went over to the Traders Hotel for a night cap and then went home about 1:00 am.  Hee hee.  Fun.

Wyatt, Madeline and I had play dates set up on both Thursday and Friday!  So fun!!  They were with moms from Lily's class, but different group of moms on each day.  They are lovely moms and adorable children.  They are full of great advice and interesting stories.  I had a wonderful time, as did Wyatt and Madeline.  I've figured out who the crafty moms are!

Friday night at The Chuan (our condo) was great fun too!  It's kinda the regular thing for everybody to meet down by the pool around 5:00 pm for a swim and a shared dinner.  This week, the Korean families cooked Korean BBQ for everyone.  It was so lovely.  The kids really enjoyed themselves and Scott and I did too.

Swimming...  I am shocked!  Both Lily and Madeline are doing AWESOME.  Lily swam the length of the LARGE, DEEP pool on her own!  She really can swim.  Madeline decided on Thursday that she wasn't going to use her ducky floaty any more.  After that, she just did it!  She can swim the length of the medium pool on her own.  I picked up some diving toys this week and both girls will dive after them in the medium (1 meter deep) pool for almost an hour.  I am totally amazed.

There is one week left in this school term.  Then, Lily has a 2 week break.  We're going to Bali on Saturday!!   Whoo hoo (we're staying in a tree house!).  School starts back up on October 10th.  Both Lily and Madeline will start school then.  Madeline is SO excited she can hardly stand it.

Yesterday, we went to the Jurong Bird Park.  I'll post about it later, but here are some pictures for a sneak peak.

It's a little odd for it to be half way through September and it still feels like summer.  I think it's going to be very interesting to live here with no season.  The weather is always the same.  I hear that rainy season is December and January.  That will be interesting!  October and Halloween will not have pumpkins.  Maybe we'll have to have a traditional Thanksgiving dinner for the folks in the condo?  Hmm.
